Have you suffered a Disc Injury?
Disc injuries are a major cause of pain and discomfort for sufferers. Long thought to be responsible for most back pain conditions we now know that disc injuries constitute only a small portion of the causes of back pain and may respond well to conservative care.
There are various levels of disc injury which range in severity. The most common disc problems include:
- Bulging Disc – A bulging disc is a result of small tears in the outermost fibres of the disc and can be painful for a short period of time.
- Disc Protrusion/Extrusion or “Herniated Disc” – A herniated disc is a more significant injury which can be painful and may even cause nerve compression. In the most severe cases, the spinal cord can become compressed.
- Degenerative Disc Disease – The most common disc problem. If you have family members who have degenerative disc disease, you are more likely to develop it yourself. Degenerative Disc Disease can also be caused by trauma or injury.
These may cause a range of symptoms and conditions including back or neck pain, leg or arm pain, stiffness, tenderness of the spine and muscles, pins and needles and muscle weakness.
